The new Aker Hospital will stand rock solid

In the years leading up to 2031, the country's largest emergency and local hospital is being built at Aker. We are proud to have been given the responsibility for the groundwork and foundation.

A solid foundation for health

The new Aker Hospital will be an emergency hospital with local, area, and regional functions. Patients with mental health disorders, substance abuse issues, and somatic illnesses will receive life-saving help here. We are happy to contribute to this by ensuring that the foundation and groundwork are performed solidly.

Securing the construction site

During the work, we will excavate what we believe will be one of Oslo's largest construction sites: 50 acres in size, with an average depth of 10 meters. Half of the volume in the pit is rock, which means the new hospital building will be anchored in bedrock, and thus stand rock solid!

There are still old protected buildings and trees on the hospital site, which we will preserve. Therefore, it is important to stabilize the deep excavation site well, so the ground does not slip during construction. We do this by building a tight pipe sheet pile wall using pipes that are driven deep into the bedrock. The pipes are fastened tightly together with anchors, with the deepest anchor row going 16 meters down into the ground. In total, the pipe sheet pile wall will be about 2,000 m² in size.

To reduce CO2 emissions, this will be a fossil-free construction site, with machines powered by HVO environmental diesel.
