New and modern power systems will reduce maintenance costs and be less vulnerable to technical failures that lead to delays and disruptions in train traffic. The modernization will therefore benefit travelers as well as local, regional, and national businesses.
Along the 92-kilometer stretch, the original catenary system will be replaced with catenary and autotransformers (KL-AT). The section includes 37 tunnels and a total of 414 hanging masts. Among other things, a total of 1,819 masts, 11 autotransformers, and 24 backup power transformers will be installed.
All railway technical disciplines will be involved in this project, with much of the work being carried out at night to minimize disruption to train traffic.
One of the largest turnkey contracts on the Norwegian railway
The modernization of the power system on the Bergen Line is one of the largest turnkey contracts on the Norwegian railway. NRC Group and Nettpartner are joining forces to complete the project. The work on the Bergen Line will be organized in a newly established company, Bergensbanen JV ANS, a joint venture in which NRC Norway and Nettpartner each own 50 percent. The contract for the project is valued at NOK 871 million, including purchases through Bane NOR's framework agreements.
