NRC Group has strengthened its railway construction and maintenance capacity with the acquisition of a new System 7 turnout tamping machine - the first of its kind in Finland and the Nordic region.
The investment replaces older equipment, improving both energy efficiency and operational reliability.
- Our goal is to remain a leading player in both railway construction and maintenance. Renewing strategically important equipment is essential for that, says Katariina Nilsson, Head of Nordic Fleet Services at NRC Group.
The System 7 machine features a low-emission engine, onboard solar panels, and new technology that monitors ballast condition, enabling more precise and efficient tamping. Its fully hydraulic system reduces energy consumption and cuts mechanical wear by up to 70% compared to traditional machines.
- The machine is easier to maintain and offers clear benefits for both our employees and customers, Nilsson adds.
At 32.5 meters long and weighing 116 tons, the System 7 can tamp up to 650 meters of track or one turnout area per hour. Its advanced measurement system uses lasers instead of mechanical scales, ensuring millimeter-level accuracy.
- This investment allows us to deliver the very latest tamping technology to Finnish railways. The first results have been excellent, says Tapani Saarinen, Fleet Manager at NRC Group.
